The Rev. John H. Bonner, III
“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord
Jesus Christ...”
I want to first thank you for the ‘call’ to Holy
Trinity. It is always an honor to
serve our Lord in a new place. There
is a certain amount of anxiety but more than that is the great anticipation of
just what God has called US to accomplish in His Name in this place. Thus,
I begin with words from St. Paul in more than one of His letters: God's
gift, ‘grace’, and his promise of ‘peace’ in whatever it is that we
accept as His ‘call’ to each one of us.
What is my work here? My
“call” is always “as a pastor, priest and teacher and along with my bishop
and fellow presbyters, to take my share in the councils of the Church.” That
is my ongoing work amongst you, the faithful. Former
Archbishop of Canterbury, William Temple, said this which is at the very heart
of our ministry in this place: “The
true shepherd not only cares for the sheep with a devotion even unto death; but
he knows them and is known by them. This
is the secret of all true pastoral work; it is achieved through personal
acquaintance.”
“With God all things are possible”. What
are your hopes and dreams for this portion of the Body of Christ? I
am here to serve God through His Son Jesus Christ and to assist you in this
great work. Let us ‘get
acquainted’ and see where the Holy Spirit leads us. I
am excited about the prospects!
